Rocky Horror Show FINALE

It's been a while since I've written a blog so here it is..Sadly The Rocky Horror Show FINALE....
So it was a very exciting night yesterday because it was the Opening Night of the show. I think the feeling you get when you wake up on the day which is opening night is irreplacable! So basically I woke up and lounged around the house for a while, had lunch and just started packing things. At this point, I just didn't know what was going to hit me later on that evening...

As most of you know the Rocky Horror Show is a show with a lot of heavy audience participation... Knowing how uptight Maltese audiences are, I didn't think that it would be so strong on audience participation! As soon as the lights went up and the band started playing the audicne just went WILD! I just couldn;t beleive it... The Narrator got sprayed as soon as he walked on stage, myself and Alex (playing janet) got Asshol-ed and Slutt-ed as soon as we entered and it was just one big ROLLERCOASTER ride! The audience were fantastic...especially one of the audience members who knew the show insde out who shouted out comments from the audience and made everyone laugh. I must admit that there were times that I felt I was going to be thrown by all the comments, especialy when a very intelligent one comes along! It was just FANTASTIC!

Then came the floorshow! Jesus Christ that was spectacular... I think I nearly felt like I was some superstar because as soon as I came out and started singing, the audience just screamed and yelled. It was just the best feeling! I don;t think that any musical in the history of musical theatre can make you feel like this. Tony Bezzina (our faithful director) once said to me "Any actor in the course of his acting carreer would want to be part of the Rocky Horror Show'. I didn't really beleive this until I set foot on the stage on Opening Night!

So those of you who haven't booked tickets yet, go ahead and book for next weekend because its gonna be a blast. TRUST ME... It's more than watching a musical...It is just one big party!!

DON'T DREAM IT... BE IT!

The Rocky Horror Diary Part 2

So I have been run after this week to write a new blog.
Here it is.... The Rocky Horror Diary Part 2

Well between Sunday and Tuesday the English guys were here and rehearsing away into the parts. I must admit, I am now really getting into the part and really starting to enjoy the lines and the whole spirit of the show, even despite the fact that I thought I would never do this kind of stuff on stage. The rehearsal on Sunday started at 11am which was a singing rehearsal and Alex and I went over our 'loive song' called "damn It Janet' which is proving to be real fun!! We then went home for lunch and that is where my day got its 'odd' streak.

My mother decided to make a traditional Sunday roast. I don;t often have dinner or lunch with my parents because I am out all the time, so my mum went all out (as she always does, but it looks more flamboyant when you see all the big dishes being served rather than everything ready on a plate to be heated in the microwave). I got to the table to find spinach soop... which was good...then my mum went back to the oven to bring out the roast. When she cut it, it seemed to be terribly undercooked, when it had been in the oven for more than the time she budgeted for the perfect Sunday lunch! She was distraught. She looked at my Dad like it was somehow his fault, but I know she was just looking for some support. She probably wanted to stamp her feet, which I am sure she did once I left the table. That meant that for lunch I had a plate of soup and a banana, to my mother's utter disapproval!

I then went back to rehearsals and Andy (the Musical Director) was there again to bang us with some notes! Must admit...chorus is sounding rather cool! A chorus full of Wah Wah Wah's and Oooooooh's and sliding notes, rock and roll and loads of fun!

The whole cast got to see ROCKY played by Roger Rowley - a very cool guy from the UK with a stunningly high voice...as the part requires! Matthew Simpson, who is playing Rocky arrived safe and sound. We were slightly worried they would keep him in customs because he was bringing two laser guns with him which we need for the show, and although they are a toy, they still could have stopped him. So as soon as he walked inot the room, everyone was relieved!

The next day was a long rehearsal too... we started with blocking some scenes with Frankenfurter and then went on to do some more singing. WE HAD SUCH A LAUGH blocking the scenes like you wouldn't believe it! It is just such a fun show to rehearse and perform and since the English blokes are only here for a short while, we need to get things right immediately! Those of you who know the Rocky Horror know that there are two very intimate scenes between Frank, Brad and Janet. I won't illustrate further but you will expect to see surprises!
It is going to be just a bag of fun.

Obviously after rehearsals, we all went out for a drink with Matthew, Roger and Andy for drinks at this club/bar/strange place called Checkers in Sliema. Suprisingly, on a Sunday night, there were a considerable amount of people dancing and drinking.. i was shocked... I mean, we are in Malta... you are supposed to go to Church and rest on Sunday!! One of the cast members, Georgina, decided to smoke in the club and nearly got arrested. I was stunned, shocked and clutched my pearls! Later that evening, Alex was picked up by a stranger and drove off in a Citroen. For privacy and secrecy's sake, I shall not go into more detail as to the happenings of Alex. We drank another beer (well they did... I don;t drink beer!) and went straight home.

Oh by the way, booking is now open. You can call 79793737 or 27842538 or log on to www.maltatickets.com

In the meantime, bring on your comments! Lovin them!

The Rocky Horror Diary Part 1

So I have decided to start writing a blog about the experience of the Rocky Horror Show. I was inspired by the blog Martin Ball started about Wicked. It was a really cool experience to read it so I thought I'd do the same for those Rocky fans out there!

So rehearsals started 2 weeks ago. We had a read through, which was a laugh and then followed by two intensive 'Brad and Janet' rehearsals, which were fun but you see Alex, who is playing Janet had a little cold which she probably gave me during those two rehearsals... but never mind.. I think when you are sick, you learn to appreciate your voice more!

This week the foreign musical director Andy Reiss came down to Malta and we had to learn all the harmonies of all the numners in four days. It is just lovely to hear all those voices, especially because I haven't been in a musical in a while! It's going to be fab! Frankenfurter has been brought down from the UK and he is just a lovely guy. We decided that the signature of the show is going to consist of myself, him and Alex shouting 'boobiees!!!!' in a really harsh masculine voice. Whenever we did this, it was always followed by a roar of laughter!!

I have to be careful not to give away too much because it will ruin the surprise for those people who will be coming to watch the show out of curiousity! But those who are curioous, trust me, there is LOADS to see. Sometimes, they even catch ME by surprise.

Anyway, I am going to leave you now because I am going to start getting stuff ready for a weekend of teaching!

The Blessed Letter & My Conclusions

So basically I was due to receive a very important letter from the Royal Academy in London.
Rachel Fabri, star of the seasons, received it and got a place at the Royal Academy... Jiena ta master of conclusions li jien, I concluded that I should receive it too so I went outside my door, took my 'bide my time' material and waited for Mr.Postman. Mr. Postman arrived with NO MAIL. I was not a happy puppy so I ran back upstairs and sulked.

Next day... this was SURELY the day when I would receive this envelope. THE WHOLE fucken world knew that i was due to receive it...including all the panto cast because I made such a fuss the day before. Anyway, the postman comes... and my mother wakes me up with a loud and booming voice 'NO POST!' - qisa biex tinkini madonna! This meant that I would have to wait for another 3 days because there was New Years Eve, New Years Day and finally the day where life goes back to normal EXCEPT MALTAPOST...they decided ...let's close down! Matthew can wait for another day for his post. I was so mad that I ran into the bathroom to take a piss and slammed the door so hard that the hinges nearly came off and I'm sure my mothers' precious madum was shaken up a little!

Next day I run to my phone at 10am to call Maltapost... They say... Oh if you haven't received it because it probably went to Malasia. I replied 'MALASIA'. He said 'ehe'. I said... 'WHAT?'. He said 'ehe'. This was just the limit... Maltapost officially SUCK!

Next day I decide OK let's give Malta-fucken-post a chance... let's tell the royal academy to send another letter... maybe they get it right this time... so i emailed them and admissions said they PASSED IT ON to the musical theatre department... noqghodu nghidu ghad dipartimenti tal-gvern! L-Inglizi l-istess! Anyway, 2 days later I decide I would like to see if this letter has been sent so I ask to be put through to the musical theatre department with a secretary who sounds exactly like every answering machine you have ever heard (I learn from Ben that she is indeed a big cassa..) who said 'Oh yes...your letter... it was mentioned that you had problems... erm.. yes... they just had a meeting about it... they havent sent it yet... they have to decide about it very soon though and we will inform you by EMAIL! Now I will have you know that i had been grovelling to get a reply by email or over the phone for over a week and they would not have it... imma insomma!

So I concluded, I am going to take a decision... I am going to go to the GSA Conservatoire.
I was accepted there immediately which means they have faith in me.. its a Masters course and its a group of just 15 people...Come on Jean and Rejxi lets INVADE GUILDFORD!

Eh bilhaqq... I also learn while I was at work last time that there are about 3 other people coming up on the music course... Ghal naqra mahniex se ntellaw il qassatat ta malta, il gallettini u naqra kirxa u gbejniet..just in case we lose are cultural identity and mass branding (courtousy of Brand Malta and Pia Zammit's voice on the radio!)

So bring on September 2007!
WOOOHOOO!
